About us

With origins dating back to 1897, today the University of the West of Scotland (UWS) is one of Scotland’s most innovative, modern, and international universities.

As part of its internationalization strategy, it forms partnerships with prestigious education and research organizations around the world, thus opening up its experience and resources to the world, while also benefiting from the infinite diversity of knowledge and experience that is out there.

It is within this strategy that the UWS has formed a collaborative partnership with the Management Centre of the Mediterranean in northern Cyprus to run certain UWS Masters programmes in Cyprus as well.

MCM was established in 2001 by the Cyprus Turkish Association of Managers and it was originally funded by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Cyprus. It has since partnered with many international organisations, local civil society organisations and private businesses, as well as civil society organisations in other countries in the region. MCM provides professional management and sustainable development services at international standards  to organisations in non-profit, private and public sectors through training, consulting, and research. It has been a leading actor in Cyprus in civil society capacity building, advocacy and lobbying.

Our vision is to become a regional hub for high-quality postgraduate social science education and research, transforming the lives of our students individually and also contributing to social justice and inclusive, sustainable development in our communities, region and the world.

UWS in Cyprus provides a unique opportunity for local and international students to get UK education at an affordable and easily accessible location in the Mediterranean. North Cyprus is already home to a large community of international students, mostly from the Middle East, North Africa and Central Asia.

Students who successfully complete their studies at UWS in Cyprus will receive a standard UWS degree parchment and this will be conferred by UWS at a formal graduation ceremony. The issuing and conferment of these awards are the responsibility of the University of the West of Scotland.

UWS in Cyprus abides by the University’s Regulations and is subject to the University’s monitoring and review activities, in accordance with the UK Quality Code for Higher Education, as well as any audits requested by the UK Quality Assurance Agency (QAA). UWS in Cyprus is also recognised by the Higher Education Council (YÖDAK) in North Cyprus.

In line with the UK Equality Act 2010, the curriculum and delivery of our programmes are designed to:

  • Eliminate unlawful discrimination, harassment and victimisation and other conduct prohibited by the Act;

  • Advance equality of opportunity between people who share a protected characteristic and those who do not; and

  • Foster good relations between people who share a protected characteristic and those who do not.

Our programmes support equality of opportunity for students from different backgrounds and with different learning needs. Using appropriate platforms, learning materials will be presented electronically in formats that allow flexible access and manipulation of content. The programme complies with University regulations and guidance on inclusive learning and teaching practice. Specialist assistive equipment, support provision and adjustment to assessment practice will be made in accordance with UWS policy and regulations. We are committed to enabling all learners, respecting diversity, promoting equality and embedding inclusivity in all aspects of its work. It is fully cognisant of and compliant with relevant external and institutional policy in this area.
